ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A gunman was shot dead in the East Street bus park in Old Harbour, St Catherine Saturday evening, shortly after he opened gunfire at a group of people, injuring two men and killing another.

The gunman reportedly entered the bus park and launched his attack about 5:15 pm. According to the Constabulary's Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the explosions alerted a policeman who was in the town. He went to investigate but was reportedly challenged by the gunman, who opened gunfire at him.

The gunman was subsequently killed during the exchange of gunfire. He remains unidentified.

One of the three people who were shot and injured succumbed in hospital. He has been identified as 26-year-old Kevin Williams, a conductor of Williams Place in Old Harbour in the parish.

Two other men remain in hospital, reportedly in stable condition.

The Inspectorate of the Constabulary and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), as well as the Old Harbour police, are investigating.
