Guns, ammunition seized in St James, Kingston

THE Granville Police in St James seized a firearm along with one round of ammunition yesterday morning.

Reports from the Granville Police are that about 7:30 am, a team of police was on patrol along Tucker Main Road, when they searched a man and a homemade handgun and one 9 mm round was found on his person.

The man was arrested and charged.

Meanwhile, quick and coordinated efforts on the part of police personnel from the Flying Squad, the Motorised Patrol Division, the Denham Town Police and the Newport West Police led to the recovery of a motor vehicle within minutes of it being stolen, and the seizure of an illegal firearm along Industrial Terrace, Kingston 14.

Reports from the Denham Town Police are that about 4:30 pm, a man reported to them that he and a friend had gone to buy a motorcar in the area when they were held up and robbed by men posing as salesmen. Officers on patrol were alerted, and through coordinated efforts, they caught the robbers and recovered the motor vehicle – a 1996 Nissan Sunny.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a 9mm Smith Wesson and eleven 9 mm rounds. The items and the vehicle were seized.

Investigations continue.
