KINGSTON, Jamaica - Leader of the opposition, Andrew Holness, Saturday night called on resident of Olympic Gardens, Kingston, to cooperate with the police in their efforts to capture the killers of 14-year-old Haile Selassie High School student, Shariefa Saddler.

The body of Shariefa, who lived on Joshua Edwards Avenue in Olympic Gardens, was dumped from a passing motor vehicle on nearby Lothiam Avenue about 11:00am Wednesday. Her body was still clad in the school uniform in which she left home, with a men's tie knotted around her neck.

The Opposition Leader, who is also the Member of Parliament for the area, joined hundreds of residents at an all night vigil in memory of the slain schoolgirl.

Holness called on the community and Jamaicans in general, to separate themselves from the “informa fi dead” culture and assist the police in whatever way they could to apprehend the killers.

“It’s a choice between our children and the gunmen,” he told the crowd.

 After the vigil, Holness spent time with the family at their home, where he was  joined by Opposition Spokesman on Youth and Gender Affairs, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange.

Investigators are still probing Shariefa’s murder and are appealing to anyone with information that may help to contact the Hunts Bay Police at 923-711, Crime Stop at 311, Police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.

Arrangements are also being made for an autopsy to determine the cause of death of her death. The autopsy will also determine whether she was sexually assaulted.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller has also condemned the brutal slaying of the teenager, and has described the incident as a barbaric attack.
