IMF update due today

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The nation will get an update this morning on the Government’s two weeks of talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
A wrap-up press conference will be held in Kingston this morning to share preliminary outcomes of those significant meetings with stakeholders.
An agreement with the IMF means the country can get budgetary support from the Fund and also have easier access to loans at better rates from international lending agencies.
The IMF has been on the island since September 24 to conduct negotiations towards a new agreement.
Finance minister Peter Phillips, had said a deal could be struck by year end.
However, Prime minister Portia Simpson Miller said she was unable to say when a deal was likely at her party’s annual conference.
