ST ANN, Jamaica — Dr Deborah Weir, Medical Officer of Health for St Ann, says there has been an increase in cases of gastroenteritis in the parish.

Dr Weir said the increased cases can be associated with the consistent rainfall, which have been affecting the parish.

Speaking at the monthly sitting of the St Ann Municipal Corporation general meeting yesterday, Dr Weir urged people to take precaution in preventing and spreading the illness, which usually causes vomiting and diarrhea.

She called on people to ensure that their water for domestic use is from a reputable source and that water is properly treated before drinking. She also stated that the washing of hands is very important to prevent the spread of gastroenteritis.
