Jamaicans arrested for immigration offences in the US

Thursday, September 06, 2012 | 1:36 PM

IMMIGRATION officials in the United States say several Jamaicans were among a group of 17 men who were arrested for immigration offences after a three-day operation in Maryland.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), says the men were all illegal immigrants with criminal histories ranging from convictions for drug distribution, assault, larceny, and arson.

Nationals from other Caribbean countries, including The Bahamas, were also arrested in the raid.

ICE says the arrests are part of a larger programme to arrest and remove at-large criminal aliens and illegal immigrants who have ignored final orders of deportation that have been handed down by federal immigration courts.
