J'can to appear in court on drug charges in Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — A Jamaican man is scheduled to appear in court in Barbados following his arrest for the unlawful possession of marijuana.

The police report that Leith Hall, 47, from St Thomas, Jamaica, arrived in the island on May 11 on board a Caribbean Airlines flight from Kingston.

After clearing immigration, he was interviewed by members of the Drug Squad and was later arrested on suspicion that he was in possession of a controlled drug.

He was taken to a nearby police station where he admitted to ingesting a controlled drug.

Hall was then taken to hospital where he passed out 76 packages of marijuana weighing one kilogram.

The drug has an estimated street value of BDS$8000 (One Barbados dollar=US$0.50 cents)

He was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis; unlawful possession with intent to supply cannabis; trafficking cannabis and importation of cannabis.
