Josephine Heron — Helper to the homeless

BY PAUL HENRY

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 | 3:45 PM

KINGSTON, Jamaica —Josephine Heron says with a smile that she has the gifts of compassion and love.

And on any day of the week, the elderly woman can be seen either in downtown Kingston, Cross Roads or Half-Way-Tree utilising her special gifts to the benefit of the homeless.

"These people need to be loved and I love them," Heron told the Jamaica Observer on Wednesday while clipping the hair of a homeless man in front the Supreme Court downtown.

Working with only a pair of scissors, Heron was able to trim three men in less than two hours.

Heron said she has been serving the homeless in the Corporate Area in one form or another for the past 27 years.

To extend her hand of benevolence Heron says she seeks the help of professionals downtown.

Another way in which she assist the homeless is through an annual Christmas treat at the St William Grant Park in downtown Kingston.

"It's like a joy for me to help them," Heron said.
