KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Kingston man was arrested after reportedly ditching a firearm in a dish drainer as he attempted to flee the police.

The lawmen, who were on foot patrol in McIntyre Villa about 11:50 pm Tuesday, reported that the man was seen acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion.

The officers said upon their approach, the man ran into a building where he removed an object from his waistband and threw it into a dish drainer.

The object, which turned out to be a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol along with 15 9mm rounds of ammunition, was seized and the man apprehended.

The police did not reveal his identity.
