Kirani James, Merritt clock 43.97 in Diamond League 400m

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Grenada's Kirani James and American Lashawn Merritt on Saturday clocked identical world-leading 43.97 seconds in the men's 400m at the Eugene Diamond League meet in the USA.

While the two could not be separated by time, James was given the nod for the top spot.

Youssef Ahmed Masrahi of Saudi Arabia finished third in a season's best 44.77.

Christopher Brown of the Bahamas finished fourth in 45.15.
