Labour ministry activates number for relatives of Jamaican workers affected by Florence

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Labour and Social Security says it has made contact with all Jamaican workers on the Overseas Employment Programme (OEP) assigned to locations in North Carolina affected by Hurricane Florence.

The ministry in a release this afternoon said that in the event family members of these workers are unable to reach them, a local emergency contact number, (876) 948-1514 has been provided. The number will be accessible on Saturday, September 15, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and on Sunday, September 16, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Telephone calls may also be made to the ministry during regular business hours on Monday, September 17. People can also send the ministry a message on its official Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Locations in North Carolina where Jamaican workers in the OEP are assigned are: Sea Island Hotel, Sonesta Hotel at Hilton Head and OMNI Hilton Head. The ministry said that that all the workers have been accounted for at this time.
