Man gets 27 years for killing infant during video game
Thursday, February 09, 2012
TENNESSEE, USA (AP) — A Tennessee man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for killing his infant son because he bothered him during his video game.
Nineteen-year-old Andrew Keith Johnston pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder in the October 2010 death of his one-month-old son William.
Assistant District Attorney Mike Randles said Johnston gave a written statement saying he became irritated when the infant was crying in his bassinet, interfering with Johnston's playing of video games, The Shelbyville Times-Gazette reports. The boy suffered a brain haemorrhage and died of his injuries at a hospital a week later. An autopsy report said he died of "non-accidental trauma”.
The prosecutor says Johnston said he squeezed the boy hard and shook him.
