Manchester man shot dead, two Kingston men charged

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Two men were arrested and charged on Thursday, November 14 in relation to the murder of 38-year-old Cornel Whitfield, otherwise called 'Zeeks', a mason of Clarks Town Road in Mandeville, Manchester.

Charged are 43-year-old Mario Martin, otherwise called 'Kevin', a mason of Cassia Crescent, Olympic Gardens, Kingston 11 and 32-year-oldJesse Reynolds, otherwise called 'Chase', a janitor of Water Street, Denham Town, Kingston 14.

Reports from the police are that Whitfield was among a group of people at a shop about 10:40 am playing dominoes, when he was pounced upon by Martin and Reynolds who were armed with guns.

They allegedly opened fire hitting Whitfield several times. The police were alerted and Marvin was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other people escaped unhurt.

The police said that following investigations, Martin and Reynolds were arrested and placed before an identification parade where they were positively identified and charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
