CLARENDON, Jamaica — THE National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists and pedestrians that effective immediately until August 2, the May Pen rail bridge in Clarendon, will be closed between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm daily for repairs.

The bridge should have been closed in June to facilitate these repairs. However, the plans were put on hold by the NWA in order to complete logistical and legal aspects of the project. Works are done through the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP) and involves sand blasting and re-painting of the steel members.

It will be reopened for five days, between August 03 and 07, 2012 to facilitate motorists who will be travelling to and from the Annual Denbigh Agricultural Show in May Pen.

The Bridge will again be closed on August 08 until August 31, 2012, between 9:00 am and 8:00 am daily

Motorists travelling from the direction of Mineral Heights, Clarendon Park or Palmer's Cross towards the May Pen town centre during the periods of closure should use the alternative route via the Bustamante Highway, Glenmuir Road, Anderson Drive then onto Manchester or Sharpe Avenues. The reverse obtains for motorists travelling from the town centre in the direction of Mineral Heights, Clarendon Park or Palmer's Cross.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to obey all posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons while work is in progress.
