Men found with 2696 pounds of ganja sentenced
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Three men who were arrested on July 1, 2012 and later charged with several offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act were on Monday sentenced, when they appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrates Court.
They are, 31-year-old Ucal McKnight of Dundee district in Westmoreland, 34-year-old Oneal Buckridge of Providence Heights in Montego Bay, St James and Dundee district in Westmoreland, and 25-year-old Gawayne Stewart of Lilliput in Westmoreland.
Reports from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that, McKnight was fined $1.65 million and sentenced two years at hard labour, while Buckridge and Stewart were jointly slapped with a total of $1.15 million in fines and each sentenced to 18 months at hard labour.
The men were arrested and charged after the police signalled them to stop and the vehicle in which they were travelling searched, 2696 pounds of compressed ganja was found.
