KINGSTON, Jamaica - The House of Representatives will meet at 2:00pm today at Gordon House.

A release from Parliament yesterday listed the items on the agenda for today’s meeting as follows:

Questions and Answers to Questions: 

(1) Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell, to respond to Question 23 from Opposition MP, JC Hutchinson, regarding the Ginger Hill Post Office in North West St Elizabeth. Hutchinson wants to know why the post office cannot be reopened, although a new building was constructed to replace the previous dilapidated building which was closed down in 1999;

(2) Minister of Education, Ronald Thwaites, to answer Question 28 regarding the assignment of motor vehicles and drivers to Ministry personnel. The questions were tabled by Marisa Dalrymple-Phillibert, the Opposition’s spokesperson on Education, seeking details on whether during the period, January 1, 2012 to the present, a government-owned vehicle was assigned to, or driven by, a senior adviser to the minister or the ministry, and details of the travel claim bills paid by the ministry to each senior adviser between January 2012 and now.

Under Public Business/Government Business, the House will debate the following:

The Judicature (Resident Magistrates) Act (Increase in Jurisdiction) Order, 2013 under the Judicature (Resident Magistrates) Act;

The Partition Act (Increase in Jurisdiction of Resident Magistrates) Order, 2013 under the Partition Act;

The Land Clauses Act (Increase in Jurisdiction of Resident Magistrates) Order, 2013 under the Land Clauses Act;

And the Settled Land Act (Increase in Jurisdiction of Resident Magistrates) Order, 2013 under the Settled Land Act.

These bills, which were passed in the Senate last Friday, combine to increase the limit on the monetary jurisdiction of the Resident Magistrate's Courts.

Private Members’ Motions: Continuation of Debate on Private Members’ Motion No. 14, moved by Raymond Pryce (North East St. Elizabeth) regarding a proposal to change the title of the Throne Speech to the People’s Speech.
