Motorist arrested over gun find, another gun found in cemetery

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — A man is in police custody after a .45 pistol was found in the car he was driving in Savanna-La-Mar this morning.

Reports from the Savanna-La-Mar police are that about 1:30 am, a team of officers was on an operation on Great Georges Street, Savanna-la-mar when the pistol, with five cartridges, was found during the search of a motor vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested. His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

The police later increased their seizures to two firearms and seven cartridges, when they searched a cemetery about 5:45 am.

The police said one Hi-Point pistol was seized at the Tait Cemetery on Dalling Street, Savanna-La-Mar. Police were reportedly conducting operations in the area when a section of the cemetery was searched and the weapon along with two .45 cartridges were uncovered beside a grave.

Investigations continue.
