NWA builds $23m Bailey bridge at Dover Castle road

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Motorists heading to the St Catherine communities of Redwood and Guys Hill will pretty soon no longer have to detour through an orange field to reach their destination.
According to the National Works Agency (NWA) construction of a Bailey bridge along the Dover Castle main road to connect the communities got underway last week.
Work on the bridge is planned for a May completion at a cost of $23 million, NWA Communications Manager, Stephen Shaw said.
The bridge is being built under the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP) after the previous one collapsed during the passage of Tropical Storm Nicole in 2010.
The project will include the construction of bridge abutments, a rubble retaining wall and the rehabilitation of approach roads, Shaw said.
