NWA to undertake $1.7-b islandwide road rehabilitation

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is to spend $1.7 billion to rehabilitate roadways across the island under the Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP).

According to Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, some 21 roadways in seven parishes will be given attention under the second phase of the local component of the MIDP.

Among the projects that have already been approved are Comfort Hall to Wire Fence in Trelawny; Coleyville main road in Manchester, Naggo Head main road in St Catherine, which are three of the larger projects that will be undertaken in addition to Springfield to Pisgah in St Elizabeth and Macknie to Douglas Castle in Clarendon.

Work on the projects is expected to get underway by Christmas, the NWA said.
