New US ambassador to Jamaica confirmed

PAMELA Bridgewater was last night approved by the United States Senate as the new US ambassador to Jamaica.

Bridgewater was nominated last month, two weeks after the extradition to the US of former Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, and 18 months after former US ambassador to Jamaica Brenda LaGrange Johnson returned to Washington.

Bridgewater is a career diplomat.

She holds a Bachelors degree with honours from Virginia State University and a Masters from the University of Cincinnati.
