National Junior Record holder Daeshon Gordon passed away suddenly yesterday morning. She was 22 years old.

3. Frequency of earthquakes in Jamaica does not indicate global increase, says ODPEM

Director General of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) Major Clive Davis says that despite the frequency with which Jamaica and the region have been experiencing earthquakes over the past two months, it is not an indication of an increase in the occurrence of earthquakes on a global scale.

4. Mob kills 21-y-o man in St Ann

A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death by an angry mob in Mammee Bay, St Ann yesterday, the police have reported.

5. EU delegation head welcomes proposed ban on some plastic material, styrofoam containers

Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Jamaica, Ambassador Malgorzata Wasilewska, has welcomed plans by the Government to introduce a ban on single use plastic bags and straws and styrofoam containers in an effort to reduce the negative impact of these on the environment.

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) says construction of a state-of-the-art beach park at the Closed Harbour Beach in St James will begin in January 2019.

7. More than 7,000 people headed for US in migrant caravan — UN

More than 7,000 people have joined the migrant caravan headed toward the US border with Mexico, a UN spokesman said Monday, citing estimates of the International Organisation for Migration.

8. Normalcy returned to waterways affected by overflow of effluent in Ewarton

he Ewarton Works bauxite plant in St Catherine is reporting that normalcy has been returned to the waterways in its immediate vicinity following an overflow of from WINDALCO's effluent holding pond last week.

9. Agent says Usain Bolt has contract offer, coach not aware

Usain Bolt's long-time agent Ricky Simms said Sunday that the eight-time Olympic sprint gold medallist had received an A-League contract offer from the Central Coast Mariners, but did not provide any further details.

10. Holder thrilled for Hetmyer but wants him to go deeper

Skipper Jason Holder has hailed the brilliance of century-maker Shimron Hetmyer but says he hopes the left-hander can bat deeper into the innings in the future.
