Dear Editor,

Can you tell us the truth and nothing but the whole truth, as to why the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is understaffed by 1,400 members?

We know that many youngsters are refusing to join the police force, for various reasons. But, on the other hand, there are still many who are ready and willing to be recruited.

In times like these, when Jamaica is rated 3rd as one of the most murderous countries in the world; in times like these, when millions of dollars are being spent on national security and with the level of fear being sky high, we cannot afford to have a short staffed police force. We need the masses — a massive contingent.

Furthermore, we need some members of the security forces to be stationed at some places for long periods of time — or even permanent, like the state of public emergency in Montego Bay.

Lot's wife turned a pillar of salt and could not move. She was jam-planted at one place. Likewise, we need some policemen to stay at certain places on a permanent basis; because, when they leave some areas, the wicked, dog-hearted murderers and gun-pests return and play hell.
