KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) will launch an investigation into the transmission system of the Jamaica Public Service  (JPS) following an island wide blackout last month.

The transmission system’s protection mechanism did not work as it should have during the Independence week blackout, the OUR discovered after reviewing a preliminary technical report.

The investigation, which will be completed by the end of November, will probe the integrity and reliability of the electricity transmission system, the OUR said.
