PNPYO calls for Ellington’s resignation

KINGSTON, Jamaica - The People’s National Party Youth Organization (PNPYO) has called for the resignation of Police Commissioner Owen Ellington, given what it says is an increase in police killings.
The organisation said yesterday that there has been little effort or success on Ellington’s part to stem the “alarming number of extrajudicial killings by police officers”.
“The PNPYO believes in light of the clear failure of Ellington due to an evident increase in police extrajudicial killings and a decrease in the respect for citizens’ right to life, it is time for a new commissioner with a new vision and direction to assume leadership of the JCF.”
The PNPYO also said the number of extrajudicial killings has increased since Ellington got the top job over two years ago, giving dozens of examples, including the Tivoli Gardens incursion in May 2010.
