KINGSTON, Jamaica — The People's National Party (PNP) says it supports the recommendation from the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) for the appointment of Glasspole Brown as director of elections. “We support the recommendation," said PNP General Secretary Julian Robinson, who pledged on behalf of his party "to work closely with him (Brown) in his new position”. Robinson, in his response to OBSERVER ONLINE, noted that Brown has "considerable experience in electoral affairs, having served as an assistant director for the last 9 years. "He also has extensive public and private sector experience and has an understanding of the work needed to take our electoral systems into the 21st century." Brown was appointed to act in the post on April 16 following the resignation of former director of elections, Orrette Fisher, in mid-March. The ECJ said its recommendation comes after a selection process open to internal and external applicants.
