PORTLAND, Jamaica — Hundreds of mourners are now gathered on the grounds of the Open Bible Church here, as the funeral for slain Opposition People's National Party (PNP) Member of Parliament (MP) Lynvale Bloomfield gets under way.

Among those inside the packed church are Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips, former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, Government ministers and Opposition MPs.

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck, Phillips, Opposition MP Natalie Neita Headley, and Portland Councillor Dexter Roland are expected to give tributes later on.

Reverend Ronald Thwaites, who is also an Opposition MP, is one of the officiating ministers.

Bloomfield's body was found with more than 20 stab wounds inside his Passport Gardens home on February 2.

He was a second-term MP at the time of his death.
