Phillips hails Reggae Girlz for 'courageous representation' of JamaicaTuesday, June 18, 2019
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Leader of the Opposition People's National Party, Dr Peter Phillips is this evening hailing the Reggae Girlz saying they represented Jamaica with courage and determination at the World Cup finals.
The Reggae Girlz went down 1-4 to Australia this afternoon in their Group C Word Cup encounter at the Stade des Alpes Stadium in France.
Phillips, in a statement from his party, said that although not making the round of 16, he was proud of their efforts and was confident that the experience would serve them well.
He added that as a young team, they would go on to greater things in the future, noting that already the team performed way above its world ranking and that alone made Jamaicans proud.
Phillips noted that most of the players were either teenagers or in their early 20s, which have set the stage for greater growth and improvement in the years ahead.
The opposition leader also extended congratulations to the coaches, managers and sponsors as well as the Jamaica Football Federation for a great effort and looks forward to the teams' return and welcome by all Jamaicans.
