CLARENDON, Jamaica — A Clarendon man was taken into custody this afternoon following the seizure of a 9mm M&P pistol with a magazine containing eighteen 9mm cartridges along the Thompson Town main road in the parish.

Reports from the May Pen police are that a team of officers was conducting a vehicular checkpoint operation about 1:55 pm in the area when they signalled the driver of a public passenger vehicle to stop.

The driver complied and the vehicle along and its occupants were searched. The firearm was found in a black plastic bag in the possession of one of the passengers, the police say.

The passenger was arrested; however his identity is being withheld at this time.
