PORTLAND, Jamaica — The normally quiet parish of Portland was rocked by two murders within a twelve-hour period between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Dead are 48-year-old German Ute Sobtaier, who resided at Park Mount in the Nonesuch area of East Portland, and Janice Linton, 37, of Baker Hill Hope Bay in West Portland.

Both women, it is reported, died from stab wounds to the abdomen.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Patrick Bennett said that two women were killed within ten hours of each other.

Three suspects are in custody in connection with the murders, DSP Bennett said.

In the case of the incident involving the German, two people including a woman, were arrested.

More information later.
