Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth – Police say they have requested a psychiatric evaluation of a woman accused of having stabbed to death her 13-month old baby girl at Lewis Town, close to Brompton in south west St Elizabeth Tuesday afternoon.
The dead baby has been identified by police as Sabrina Joseph and the mother, 22 year-old Shaneka McCalla is in police custody. Police investigators say she is likely to be formally charged soon.
Police reports are that mother and baby were at home with other family members when McCalla went outside with the baby. Family members reportedly told the police that she later returned to say she had killed her baby. They rushed out to find the baby with what appeared to be stab wounds to her chest.
The baby was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
