REDjet gives up hope on Jamaica, Trinidad flights

Jamaica Observer

Friday, May 27, 2011

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – The low budget carrier, REDjet says it will no longer seek to operate flights between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, and has also announced a postponement of the service between Barbados and Jamaica for another two months.

The airline blamed “ongoing regulatory delays” in Port of Spain and Kingston for the decision.

In e-mails sent to customers, REDjet, which is providing fares from as low as US$9.99, said the delays were out of its control and has promised a full refund.

“REDjet is extremely disappointed for all of our passengers and remains committed to fight to bring you the lowest fares,” it said in the e-mail.

The Barbados-based airline, which is viewed as a major competitor to some of the established regional carriers, has been bogged down by bureaucratic and administrative delays in getting the Jamaica and Trinidad services operational over the past few weeks.

On the contrary, REDjet has had no major problems launching its Barbados-Guyana flights that began on May 10.
