WALKERSWOOD, St Ann — Angry residents of Walkerswood here in St Ann have blocked the main road in the community.
The residents are demonstrating against a lack of piped water in the community.
The National Water Commission (NWC) serves the residents, but according to the protesters, the NWC’s system has been out of service for more than two weeks.
The protesters say the trucking of water to the community by NWC is inadequate and they want the damaged system, which serves the community, to be immediately repaired.
Early this morning, the residents used large tree trunks, stones and other debris to block the main thoroughfare.
The roadblocks have affected scores of school children and motorists travelling to and from Kingston.
The police are maintaining a presence in the community and have begun to clear some of the debris.
They are advising motorists to use the alternative routes via Chalky Hill or Drax Hall.
