THE National Solid Waste Management Authority and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management have confirmed that operations to meet the target of 72 hours to control the fire and smoke nuisance at the Riverton City landfill have been successful.

The ground command operations have now moved into phase two which is the further cooling, complete abatement of the smoke nuisance and full restoration of operations. All fires have been extinguished.

Given the current status, the Ministry of Education is advising that all schools that were ordered closed on Friday may reopen tomorrow.
