KINGSTON, Jamaica -- In a close bout throughout Sakima Mullings prevailed to win the final of the 2014 Wray and Nephew Contender over Tetse Davis Wednesday night at the Outdoor Sports Centre in Kingston.

Controversy erupted in round five when in an exchange of powerful punches Mullings was staggered from a Davis punch to the face.

But the referee surprisingly stopped the fight after Davis turned his back on his opponent, leaving everyone in confusion. After an intervention by judges the fight resumed, both boxers throwing bombs at each other.

The bruising contest ended in round 7 when Davis’ corner entered the ring to stop the bout as Mullings pummeled him against the ropes.

“They throw in the towel a little too early,” Davis said after the fight
