Sakima Mullings wins first bout in 2014 Contender boxing series

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Sakima Mullings knocked out Revlon Lake of Guyana in the fourth round in the first fight of this season’s Wray & Nephew Contender held Wednesday night at the Chinese Benevolent Centre on Hope Road in Kingston.

For this the fourth season of the Contender, the Green Team will comprise Jamaican boxers who will go up against the Yellow Team, which consists of boxers from the wider Caribbean -- Guyana, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Eight Jamaican boxers including Mullings, Tsetsi ‘Lights Out’ Davis and Donovan ‘Police’ Campbell will do battle against Team Caribbean. The Jamaica Team is led by Coach Carl Grant and the Caribbean team by Coach Andrew Boland.

The boxers are competing for a share of J$3 million in prize money, with the winner of the Wray & Nephew Contender walking away with J$2 million and the runner-up J$500,000.
