Schizophrenia stopped me from coming to court

ORLANO Gayle, who is charged with larceny contended in court that his schizophrenia stopped him from attending court.

Gayle was remanded in custody until March 14.

He was charged in 2009 for stealing $10,000 in cash and $11,000 worth of Claro phone cards from his employer at a Kingston Restaurant. Gayle was arrested and charged earlier this year.

He tried told Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey, that his illness made it difficult for him to focus and remember things. But the Magistrate would have none of it and set his sentencing for March 14.
