KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two watchmen at the Thompson Town High School in Clarendon were shot, one fatally, when armed men entered the school compound early this morning.

Dead is 39-year-old Alrick Carthy of Springfield in the area.
Minister of Education, Senator Ruel Reid has since strongly condemned the gun attack and extended condolences to the family of Carthy and the school community.

He also appealed for calm within the school community while the police conduct investigations.

Carthy fathers three children, two of whom attend the institution.

Staff at the school described Carthy and his injured colleague as diligent workers who were very committed to their job and the safety of their colleagues.

The other injured man is now in hospital in critical condition.
