Scorpions hold on for draw versus Pride

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Scorpions ended on 98-6 in their second inningson Sundayto earn a draw against visitors Barbados Pride in the rain-truncated regional four-day match at Sabina Park.

Earlier, Barbados Pride had declared on 304-7 with left-hander Jonathan Carter top-scoring with 103. Scorpions medium pacer Derval Green claimed 2-59. That gave the Pride a lead of 128 runs after the Scorpions' first-innings score of 176-8 declared. Scorpions left-hand opener John Campbell made 44 against the Pride medium pacer Kevin Stoute, who took 4-58.

Batting a second time, the Scorpions were reduced to 89-6 as left-arm finger spinner Jomel Warrican (3-22) threatened to wreak havoc. But Scorpions Captain Paul Palmer, who struck a 100-ball 32 not out, stayed solid to steer his team to a draw. Derval Green was left with him unbeaten on eight.
