Several suspects arrested in islandwide police operations

KINGSTON, Jamaica— The police are reporting the arrests of several wanted persons and persons of interest in an islandwide initiative headed by the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

According to the constabulary's Corporate Communications Unit, in Area 1: The St James police conducted operations in areas of Bessie Baker district, Chester Castle, Paradise and Norwood in the parish where;

• One man was arrested for rape

• One person of interest was taken into custody for breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act 2013.

• One man was taken into custody for reasonable suspicion of harbouring a fugitive.

• Two men have been taken into custody for reasonable suspicion of human trafficking and possession of access device.

In Area 2;

• The St Mary police arrested one man in relation to murder.

• Three men who were listed as wanted for the offences of shop breaking and larceny and possession and dealing in ganja were arrested at Woodstock Housing Scheme in Portland.

Ten bench warrants were also executed and five people were arrested for breaches of the Road Traffic Act.

In Area 3:

• One female was arrested in Manchester on bench warrant for the offence of larceny as a servant. One male was also arrested on an affiliation warrant in the sum of $226, 000 for affiliation or child maintenance in Georges Valley in the parish.

• In Rum Lane, Chatteau, Clarendon, one male was detained as a suspect in a murder case in The Bahamas.

• The St Elizabeth police arrested one male for having sexual intercourse with a person under 16. Two males were also arrested as persons of interest in robberies.

In Area 4:

• The Kingston Western police arrested one person who was listed as wanted for the offence of burglary and assault at common law on Penn Street, Admiral Town in the parish. Three persons of interest were also detained.

• Four persons of interest were arrested in Franklyn Town for robberies by the Kingston Eastern police.

• In St Andrew Central, one man who was wanted for murder was taken into custody along with two persons of interest. Three persons were also detained in connection to the seizure of one M16 magazine containing ten 5.56mm cartridges.

• One Uzi sub-machine gun and 13 9mm cartridges were seized by the St Andrew South police following a fatal shooting in Kingston 13.

In Area 5:

• One man, who was listed as a person of interest for robbery and three counts of rape, was arrested in Treadways district, St Catherine. Another man was also arrested in Linstead by the St Catherine North police for possession and dealing in cocaine.

The police are withholding the identities of the individuals taken into custody to facilitate investigations.
