Shaw apologises, pay damages to Bunting after lawsuit
OPPOSITION spokesman on Finance, Audley Shaw, has apologised to National Security Minister Peter Bunting, for statements he made at two public meetings in November, 2011.Contending that Shaw’s statements were false and libelous Bunting filed a lawsuit against him.
The suit was settled on Tuesday, July 10 and Shaw agreed to issue a public apology and to pay damages to Bunting. However, the parties have agreed that the amount of the payment would be kept confidential.
The following is Shaw’s apology:
On November 13, 2011 at a JLP Area Council Three meeting at the Manchester High School and on November 16, 2011 in Runaway Bay, St Ann, I made certain statements in relation to the Hon Mr Peter Bunting. These statements were also carried in the media. I hereby withdraw those statements as I am satisfied there was no basis for saying them. I apologise unreservedly to the Hon Mr Peter Bunting for any hurt or embarrassment that my statements may have caused.
