LONDON, England — An expectant crowd is on hand as the first session of track and field of the London Olympic Games is about to get underway with the men's shot put preliminaries.

A full half hour from the start of the competition the 80,000-seater Olympic Stadium was more than three quarters full as the sun struggled to peep out from behind the ever-building clouds.

Rains and cool conditions have been forecast for later today and through the entire weekend.

Jamaica’s Dorian Scott who will be the first Jamaican in competition today marched into the stadium to loud applause just after 9:15am UK time and will compete in Group A.

Another 14 Jamaicans will take part today in the men's 400m hurdles, women's 400m, women's discus throw, men's long jump, women's 100m preliminaries and women's triple jump.
