KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange has praised Jamaica's teams to the CARIFTA Games, the CARIFTA Chess Championships and the CARIFTA Swimming Championships for “demonstrating once again our rich talent in a variety of sports.”

The minister's comment follows Brianna Williams defending her sprint double and the 35th straight team victory for Jamaica at the Games; the Chess Team winning its first overseas team title; and 13-year-old Zaneta Alvaranga giving a record-breaking performance in the 50-metre Butterfly event.

“The quality of performance by the young men and women in these sporting disciplines is reassuring for Jamaica's continued success in sports. All that is required is that the nation gives them its full support,” Grange said in a statement today.

“As we praise the participants, let us also commend the coaches and others who attend to these young people who fly the Jamaican flag high on the track, around the chess table and in the swimming pool,” the sport minister said.
