SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Men suspected of using fake identification cards to facilitate criminal activities fled from the police leaving behind a firearm, false ID cards, other accoutrements and a motor car, in Junction, South East St Elizabeth on Thursday.

A police source said a patrol was on duty in the Dunder Hill area of Junction on Thursday afternoon when men who triggered suspicion were seen at a house.

On the approach of the police, the men fled. The police searched the premises and found two ID cards in the name of the Jamaica Public Service Company which have since been confirmed as fake, a Browning 9mm pistol with 14 live rounds, helmets and vests usually associated with JPS contractors.

The police suspect that a Toyota Corolla motorcar commonly referred to as ‘kingfish’ which was also found on the premises may have been rented.

The police source told the Observer that the incident served as further evidence that residents needed to be “extremely careful” in regards to those who approach claiming to be representatives of various agencies.
