Suicide suspected in senior cop's deathSaturday, July 21, 2018
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has been plunged into mourning following the suspected suicide of one of its members in Mango Walk Boulevard, St James last night.
The officer, Senior Superintendent Dermot Lawrence gave 37 years of service to the force spanning several postings across multiple geographic divisions, the police said.
In a release from the Constabulary's Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the Police High Command expressed condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
At the same time, the High Command assured that the organisation is “mindful of the intense stressors of the job and the impact these can have on our members' personal lives and performance”, and is therefore imploring members “to avail themselves of the mechanisms that the organisation has established to cater to their overall wellbeing, to include three main support systems – the Volunteer Pastors Programme, the Chaplaincy Unit and the Medical Services Branch.”
CCU said the JCF Chaplaincy Unit, the Community Safety and Security Branch and the Medical Services Branch have been directed to provide support to Lawrence's family and colleagues.
