Suspect in custody for murder of elderly St Thomas couple

ST THOMAS, Jamaica — The St Thomas police have arrested a suspect in relation to the double murder of an elderly couple in the parish on Tuesday, January 9.

Following preliminary investigations the suspect was held in Seaforth district yesterday.

He is to be questioned in the presence of his attorney; however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

Reports are that on Tuesday, January 9, about 10:30 am, 81-year-old Melbourne Flake and his wife, 70-year-old Etta Flake, were found at their home, motionless with their hands and feet bound. The police were alerted and they were both taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

In the meantime, the police are appealing to anyone who can assist them with investigations into a triple murder, which occurred in Georgia district in the parish on Saturday, January 20, to contact the Morant Bay Criminal Investigation Branch at 982-1027, police 119 emergency number, 811, Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest police station.
