KINGSTON, Jamaica —Attorneys Tom Tavares-Finson and his son Chris have been retained to watch the criminal court proceedings against the cop who killed a pregnant woman in St Thomas on the weekend.

The legal team will be watching on behalf of the family and estate of the 27-year-old victim, Kerryann Lamont.

"We are happy that this matter seems to be moving quickly and we are hoping for a speedy and just resolution of this matter within the confines of the court," the senior Tavares-Finson told the Jamaica Observer.

The Tavares-Finsons are the second set of lawyers retained on behalf of the family this week. On Monday, Queen's Counsel Dorothy Lightbourne was retained in an effort to secure compensation from the State over Kayann’s killing and the injuring of her sister Novia.

Kayann was shot in the head, a few feet away from the Yallahs Police Station, following a tussle with Smart, who had accosted her the use of indecent language.

Her sister was shot in the shoulder.
