KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Water Commission (NWC) is reporting that the theft of equipment from the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) grid has disrupted the electricity supply to the Lime Tree Grove water supply system in St Catherine resulting in a lack of water in surrounding communities.

The NWC, in a release today, indicated that it is concerned about the increasing trend of theft and vandalism to electrical equipment and the impact that the damage and losses were having on the NWC's water supply systems.

In light of this, the NWC noted that it would be seeking to have discussions with the JPS and the police to identify urgent security solutions for water and electricity operations.

In the meantime, individuals are being urged to alert the police via 119 or any NWC office to report any suspicious activity observed at NWC facilities.
