Two killed in St Mary crash

Driver hospitalised

ST MARY, Jamaica - Two people were killed yesterday morning and another hospitalised after the vehicle in which they were traveling plunged into the Wag Water river in St Mary.

The dead persons have been identified 25-year-old Okenio Spence and Sharlene Beckford, 35, both of St Catherine addresses.

The driver of the vehicle, whose identity police have not released, remains in hospital in serious condition.

According to police reports, about 2:30 AM, the three were traveling along the Aqualta Vale when the vehicle reportedly hit a metal rail and plunged into the river.

The three who suffered multiple injuries were pulled from the murky water by local residents who were nearby and rushed to hospital.

 

Spence and Beckford were pronounced dead while the driver was admitted in serious condition.

The mangled vehicle was removed from the water several hours later.
