ST THOMAS, Jamaica — The police say that they have charged the 44-year-old mother who was seen in a video circulated on social media beating her daughter with a machete.

According to a tweet from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Doreen Dyer has been charged with cruelty to a child.

She is to appear before court on October 9.

The video, which has gone viral, showed Dyer, dressed only in her underwear, hitting the girl with what appears to be a machete, while using expletives.

It was later revealed by the JCF that the incident took place sometime last year in Bath, St Thomas.
