US$16k in cash seized at Port of Montego Bay

ST JAMES, Jamaica – The Jamaica Customs Agency yesterday seized US$16,000 in cash hidden in an import shipment at the on the Port of Montego Bay under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).

According to a release from the agency, the US currency was found during a routine examination of a shipment when officers were alerted to a discrepancy, which prompted further examination.

Eight packages containing cash concealed in the shipment was found and further checks revealed that the eight rectangular packages had US$16,000 or approximately JMD $2,000,000.

The matter is currently being investigated by the Border Protection Division of the Jamaica Customs Agency.
